Cedar
(f.k.a. Reba)
NEWSFLASH! Reba is now Cedar and lives with her new
family, Kam and Mike, in North Carolina. She is getting top-notch
medical care and proper socialization. She is really blossoming into a
typical, vivacious and loving vizsla. Thanks, Kam and Mike, for opening
your hearts and home to this precious girl. May she bring you joy and
happiness for many, many years to come.
Her story: We received Reba when
she was just 4.5 months old. She was born with a malformed leg. Her former owner worked at a vet clinic and saved
her from euthanasia at 7 weeks old. Not prepared for a young, active vizsla and a toddler at home, she felt it was best to re-home Reba.
Reba spent many months in foster care, going through surgery to repair
her leg and many months of rehab and therapy. A special thanks to
Grandma-ma Kat and Ray (Grumpy) who loved and cared for this special girl.
It was very difficult to let her go at the end, as they formed a special
bond with Reba (Cedar). We can't thank you enough.
Update - 8/29
Here are some new photos of Cedar...1. at "good
manners" class, 2. see how she matches our dyed concrete floor!, 3. even
me taking a picture at close range cannot deter her from her favorite
task of window hunting, 4. helping Mike cut some boards.
Late last week we took her follow-up x-rays from
shock wave therapy. The doctors at work are seeing some good progress
and more bridging occuring. Her screws don't appear to be backing out
more, though whenever she overdoes it she still gets gimpy so we have
to make sure she has plenty of down time. We're waiting to hear back
from U of
Tennessee to see if they want her back for a second treatment
since they're the experts on that. We have nicknamed her foot "billy"
short for billy-club because when she wants to get our attention we
sometimes will get randomly whacked with it.
She continues to get more and more comfortable with things and
confident of herself. She is quite full of herself and now instigates
(or should I say demands) when she wants to play and can get pretty
rowdy. Every night before bed she beats up all of her toys and has a
grand old time. Next week she is meeting the extended Watkins family
and we're planning on lots of treats and socialization. We have found
that she love love loves watermelon so we'll definitely be having that
on our Labor Day picnic. Hope you all have a fun weekend holiday.
-Kam, Mike & Cedar

THANK YOU to all of Reba's
sponsors!! Her medical expenses were extraordinary and we could not have
helped her without you!

Levi
Levi is a 15-month old neutered male. He is a
typical vizsla - smart, friendly and energetic. Levi needs stability and
structure. He has already gone through several homes in his young life;
homes not familiar with the breed. Because of this, our preference is to
place him with a family who has vizslas, or had them in the past. Please
contact us
if you're interested.

Leo
Susan rescued another veteran last year,
Brisco. Brisco passed away in September.
When we heard about Leo, whose owners decided to
give him up at age 12 because they were moving, Susan was notified. He
really deserved a loving home to live out his life, and Susan was his
salvation.
"Here’s a picture that I took this morning.
He’s so handsome! He is a great companion for my 15 yr old
Vizsla, Zoe. They
spend a lot of time cuddling up to each other on the same big pillow and
Leo – perhaps mimicking a cat he may have lived with ??! – loves to
slowly and very thoroughly lick Zoe’s entire face! She of course loves
it very much. They act like an old married couple! He’s more energetic
than when he arrived and has put on a little needed weight. He’s just
perfect for our family and we couldn’t be more pleased with how well he
adapted to our ways. He seems happy with us too.
Thank you so much for all of your work – you can
certainly consider Leo a successful rescue. It would be great if you
could post his picture and story to your web-site.
Thanks again for all you do,
Susan"
Thank
YOU, Susan! You are an ANGEL to give these veterans a loving home to
live out their golden years!!! |

Sierra
Her story is a perfect example of why it's not a good idea to get two
puppies at the same time. The owner was overwhelmed with the active
puppies and left them with a rescue group, who contacted us. Sierra and
her sister were just 8-months old and clearly had no training.
Sierra now lives in Augusta with her new family, Scott and Melissa,
who just adore her.

Hudson
Hudson was found as a stray near Nashville, TN. His story is too big
for this page, so he's got his own.
His wonderful foster dads, Kevin and Steve, decided to keep him with
their family. What a very happy ending for this lucky boy.

Hunter
Hunter was found as a stray near Nashville, TN.. He is now living
with a family in Savannah and a new vizsla brother! Special thanks to
his rescue crew, the Brock family, Kathy Hanson, Kevin & Steve, Trish &
Wayne James!!!
From his new mom:
"I'm thrilled to report everything has gone great tonight. As
I type Hunter is laying by my side. He and
Maverick got along famously - Maverick played with him in our
yard and that is the first time he has played with another dog since
Bodie died 3 months ago. It did our hearts good to see their positive
reaction to each other! Here are some shots of Hunter's homecoming (
he's in the green collar we bought for him before we knew he had the
orange one). I'll stay in touch. Wanted to let you know about the
successful night! Thank you to each of you for your rescue of this
wonderful boy and for his safe delivery today."

Kirby (f.k.a. Derby)
Kirby was an owner-surrender from Knoxville, TN. She is now living in
Atlanta with her new mom, dad, and two boys who keep her very happy and
busy. She's a sweet girl and we are happy we could help find her a great
new home!!!
A message from her mom:
"She
is doing great. She loved the weekend in the woods and was great on a
10 mile hike. She sleeps in someone's bed every night and hates to be
apart from Ryan. She has found her voice and yips/barks sometimes (at
her reflection in the mirror) but it is fine. We love her!"

Dawson
This poor guy was a stray in South Georgia (no
microchip). He was seen wandering the streets of a neighborhood for
several weeks until someone took him in. We were notified when an ad was
placed for him online.
To make a long story short, Dawson was rescued by
two great guys, Keith and Rob, and their other red dog, Marlo.
"We
LOVE our new boy. He has blossomed over the past week into a very funny
and happy fellow. What a great personality and just fuunnnnny!!!"

Oscar
Jennifer had two beautiful vizslas, Scout and Radley, but
tragically lost Radley at 9 years to cancer early last year. Radley was
missed terribly by both Jennifer and Scout. Jennifer called us to get on
a list for a 'mature' male to be Scout's new pal. Almost simultaneously
we get a call about a 5-year old owner-surrender. Oscar was the perfect
match in every way, and it was love at first sight!
Thanks, Jennifer, for giving Oscar a wonderful new home!!!

Annabelle
Annabelle was a 5-month old owner-surrender. Her owners were not
prepared for the time and attention requirements. (We
hear this story repeatedly, which is why we urge, beg, and plead for
those wanting a vizsla to do your homework first, and meet with owners
and their dogs before taking the plunge.)
Annabelle is now living happily with her new family, Margo and
Craig, and her new sister, Mini!

Dante (formerly Hunter)
Hunter was a 3-1/2 year old neutered male.
This boy is a SWEETY! He gets along well with kids, dogs, and has
never met a stranger. He just wants to play! He's crate
trained and housebroken. Due to family circumstances, his owners
feel they can no longer keep him. Hunter deserves a loving forever
home.
Dante is now catching up for lost time. He
spends his days playing fetch and going on long walks through the woods.

Brisco
Brisco,
(Abellamir –Boeltes West Spirit),
is a 13 year old vizsla. He is a sweet, gentle,
loving guy. Unfortunately,
his owner is moving out of the states and can not take him. He
suffers from cataracts, but overall he is in good health. He needs
a loving home to enjoy his golden years. If you would like to give
this ol' sweetie a home, please let us know.
A HUGE thanks to Susan for giving this lovely boy a
wonderful home! Thanks to Joanne Hamilton for not giving up on finding
Brisco a home, and thanks to Nancy Edmunds for giving us the PERFECT
lead! "Susan and her 14 yr old Zoe are madly in love with
Brisco. They said the choice to take him was the best one they have
ever made! He is a big love, and he gets along with Zoe famously. She
could not have picked a better companion for her elderly girl." Joanne

5 April 2008
Apple was an owner-surrender.
Though a typical vizsla , her owners were not prepared for the high
energy and training needs. She has since found her forever home
with the Hannah family. She melded right in to their household and
is now just one of the family. More to come....

Sophie Sophie was found wandering a K-Mart
parking lot in Alabama. When nobody claimed her, Animal Control
contacted us. The AC officer was kind enough to drive part way to meet
Elaine Panebianco, who offered to make the long haul to pick her up.
I
fostered Sophie, for a couple of weeks.
She melded in just fine, and got along great with my boys. She is as sweet as
vizslas get! I took her to the vet to be spayed and to check out a
wound on her shoulder blade, which turned out to be a bullet! Poor
girl!
During that time, I was contacted by Sandra Smith of Rosewood Vizslas.
She said her niece, who has plenty of experience with vizslas, was looking to
adopt a rescue. Shortly thereafter I was contacted by Sandra's niece,
Casey. Casey and I spoke almost daily, sometimes several times a day
and I knew from the beginning that she and her husband would make an
excellent family for Sophie.
The day had come to deliver Sophie to her new home. I was so excited
to finally hand the leash over to Casey, but was also sad to see Sophie go.
It was as I predicted --- a perfect home for a perfect girl. They love
her to death, or in Casey's own words "I love my dog! She rocks my face
off!" Now, is that love or what?! - Tania |

 |
|
"Sophie is doing so well in her new home. She has already started obedience
school and is doing very well. So far she has learned many new tricks and
is loving all of the attention she gets from her teacher and other dogs.
Sophie has discovered Kongs and runs to the freezer every time it opens to
see if she is going to get a Frosty Paw dog ice cream. We are happy to
report that this dog is truly a part of our family. " - Casey Smith |

Cinnamon Cinnamon has
struck it rich!
Many in the Atlanta Vizsla community have had
the pleasure of meeting this lady, since she was fostered by Claudia Park
and Riley, and often accompanied them on Vizsla outings! It is refreshing to
be reminded that there are loving people with safe and comfortable homes
willing to adopt older dogs, and mixes too.
A nice update and photo have been shared by Valerie and Veta, who adopted
this special girl. |
 |
"Cinnamon is doing great after a week with us. She was
not too pleased by the thunderstorms earlier in the week, but she did great
on her first visit with us to the vet. She handled herself with all the
grace of a lady. The vet and her staff commented on how good Cinnamon
looks--she's "svelte" and "athletic," to use their words. She's getting a
lot of exercise these days, walking an average of two miles a day. Today,
she hiked with us for three miles in the wooded trails of Stone Mountain
Park. Then, she spent most of the day sacked out in one of her four or so
favorite napping spots in the house. All in all, she's a happy
girl--and we're delighted to be sharing our lives with her."

1. Our adoption application has a place at the end where you can
indicate if you would consider a Vizsla mix.
Probably half of our applicants indicate they would, depending on
personality and appearance. Though the official position of the VCA and the
VCMA are that rescues are to be pure bred, many of us on the local level
also work to rehome the mixes. They are just not officially under the
umbrella of the club.
2. Many of us have adopted older dogs, and I think all of us will
vouch for the fact that they are often the BEST dogs you can take into your
family.

Mo'Be This picture is
from Mary Ann and Melvin Madsen. Patience, on the left, is their baby girl
from Barbara Zahn. She's 9 1/2.
Mo'Be is the young man on the right, now 2 1/2. He was a thin little fella
when he came in the group of 4 from FL last fall.
Mo'Be was not only thin, but had a time with being carsick. The Madsens were
diligent about taking him on frequent and brief rides, to build his
endurance. This thin young man is now solid-as-a-rock muscle. Mary Ann said
he looks like he's gained weight, but it is only four pounds. He is just
strong and healthy now! |
 |
The frequent updates and loving stories, plus precious
pictures, are a sure sign that Madsens are a great home for a sweet Vizsla
boy who came into rescue with uncertainty. They love their Vizslas, and VCMA
and Buffy are thankful for their love and Patience. **Pun Intended!**

Peanut |
I have an update from Lanny and Linda
Lancaster, who adopted Peanut. You may remember Peanut and Jazz, her yellow
Lab brother. The Lancasters had adopted from
Anne Standen (VCC) previously. When asked if she would be a reference for
them, Anne not only said they would be a wonderful Vizsla home, but she
wished they would adopt her!!
It appears Peanut is a happy girl, with lots of love, attention, and living
the good life! ~ Buffy"Peanut is great!
She is the sweetest dog. We took her to the beach the week of October 17.
This was her 2nd trip and she loved it. She wanted to chase the birds
so badly! Our condo has a screened porch which she loved. She is very
healthy, active and happy. Luci and Loki adore her as do Lanny and I.
We are so happy she joined our family.
If you have anyone who would like to talk with an adopter/V owner, let me
know. I will be happy to tell them about the joy of being owned and
loved by a V."
Another happy note, Jazz's mom decided he was doing well with her, as an
only dog-child, so Jazz has stayed with his loving mom. |

NELLIE |
|
Valorie and Sean were very excited to meet Nellie, and adopt her. They were
glad to give her the opportunity to be an inside dog (Nellie was an outside
dog for her first four years.), and to have lots of love and attention.
According to Valorie, "She seems VERY happy and is a good dog. She
LOVES to play ball and, if given the opportunity, would play ball for HOURS.
Her new life is a much happier one and we are thrilled to have her."
Well, we are thrilled that Valorie and Sean have Nellie, and so glad that
Nellie has a loving mom and dad who pay her lots of attention!

MAXWELL |
|
Fostered by Dawn &
Bill Hutchinson
Babysat by Linda Hart,
Joanne Blair
Adopted by Eileen
Rickerson
Max was an
owner-surrender, dearly loved by his human mom, not so by his human dad. Max
was fostered by Dawn and Bill for two months, and Dawn successfully cleared
up an ongoing skin condition with which he had arrived.
Max’s new mom Eileen
was a bit frantic the first week, as she did not understand the Vizsla trait
of mouthing. She thought he might be inclined to aggression, though I
assured her this was not the case. After seeking other anecdotes of Vizslas’
loving habit of taking your hand, wrist, or arm in their mouth, in greeting,
happiness, of trying to show you something, I shared them with Eileen. She
finally realized that she had a fabulous boy in her life, with no concerns!
Max
now leads “The Good Life”, being doted on by Eileen, and all the friends
and family too! Max has moved from
Peachtree
City
to St. Simons Island, GA.
|
 |
|
Note from
Eileen: Thanks again for checking in with us last evening and for
your continued support and interest! I forgot to mention that as beautiful
as Dawn had Max's coat looking 2 weeks ago, it has improved and is even
better now. It has all filled in nicely and he's a beaut! Also, my daughter
was so impressed with him that she hopes to check out Vizsla rescue when
they are in a position to acquire a second dog. She absolutely loves Max and
would've taken him home if I'd allowed it! (Did I mention she had been
pre-vet and just loves dogs too?) ----------and----------- "Maxwell has
most definitely won over ALL of the hearts of family and friends! He's a
good, good fellow with many admirable traits! He loves the beach and is
beautiful to watch, in motion, however after a week of daily walks and early
morning sandbar races in pursuit of water fowl (and barking additionally at
dolphins) his skin condition resurfaced." I will send a photo to
illustrate that Maxwell also enjoys the old wicker swing as do I! It gives
him a great vista into the marsh and there's so much to capture his watchful
eyes!!! More later! Eileen and Maxwell (and I think he's very content now
that we've both adapted...so we thank you for your encouragement, calm,
patience and support!!)

| Copper
– A Foster Story
Three
years ago, we made a pact that if we ever brought another dog in our home, it
would be a rescue dog.
A few years ago, someone helped us by giving our 8 month old Labrador
retriever a loving home, when we found we could not. The
lab shed profusely, and we had a baby with reactive airway disease, and the
two didn’t mix.
We
decided to start off by fostering a Weimaraner or Vizsla, to be sure it was
the right thing for us to do.
This way, we would be helping the rescue organization house a homeless
dog, and giving it a try for us at the same time.
I
found Buffy Scheaffer on the internet, and after a few phone calls, we got to
know each other and came to a clear understanding of the needs of dog rescue,
and the needs of our family.
She, with her caring nature, took into great consideration what would
be the best characteristics in a dog to fit our family lifestyle.
|
 |
|
Copper
came to us on a Tuesday night.
The family who owned him had recently moved to Atlanta, and their new
careers kept them out of the house for up to 12 hours daily, and Copper
needed more attention than they could give.
He was in dire need of medical help, and a lot of love and attention.
He
took to us immediately, as if we had owned him since day one.
He licks my 3 year old and 6 year old’s faces daily, and is so
gentle when they play with him.
We have renamed him a couple of things, “Copper, the Smooch
Pooch”, and “Copper, the 50lb Lap Dog”.
He is happiest if he can jump up in my lap, and make a nest.
At night, he sleeps by my bed, on his back, with his belly up in the
air, both feet out like he’s taking flight, and we cover him with a
blanket. We
place bets on how long he will stay like that, and no one ever wins because
we fall asleep waiting for so long.
He
makes us smile so many times in the course of one day, this foster home just
might only foster this one dog.
Forever.
(The
Myers family did adopt Copper, after extended fostering, nursing and medical
care. Another Happy Ending!)

| Logan
- Hurricane Survivor
|
|
Sometimes we forget
about the other victims of hurricanes…the animals.
Logan, a wonderful male
Vizsla, was one of those victims.
|
 |
|
He was seen running
loose for several days, after the last storm hit southern Alabama. Eventually
he was picked up and taken to a local animal pound, where he endeared himself
to those who work there. They kept him for a little over two weeks, hoping
his owner would reclaim him. He was sleek, already neutered, sweet and well
behaved. They didn’t have the heart to euthanize him.
Sadly, Logan had no
identification – no collar with tag, no tattoo, and no microchip. Someone
is probably mourning the loss of a great dog because of that.
Lucky for Logan, the
Golden retriever rescue of south Alabama saw him and called Buffy, who did
confirm for them that he was indeed a Vizsla. They made arrangements to
transport him, with the help of another rescuer in Auburn, AL, who brought
him to Atlanta. After immediate vetting, Logan was taken in by Becky White
and her family, who had prearranged to foster him for as long as necessary.
Logan’s luck
continued. A couple in Roswell who already had a year old female Weimaraner
were determined they wanted to adopt a rescued Vizsla. They had waited
patiently for weeks, after sending in their application. A week after Becky
took in Logan, Rob and Athena, with Stella, their Weim girl, went to visit,
and took Logan home that day. They opted to take a little time to make sure
that Logan and Stella would get along, before finalizing the adoption.
Logan’s luck: A new
sister who is sweet, playful, and easy to get along with, a new mom and dad
who adore him, yet take the time to make sure obedience is a regular part of
life. Best of all, Logan has his own red Mustang convertible. Check out the
picture!
Seriously, a reminder to
everyone who reads this…if your cats and dogs are not microchipped, please
do it as soon as possible, for all your companion animals. If Logan had
been chipped, he would have been reunited with his owner very quickly. VCMA
rescue recommends Home Again, AKC CAR (companion animal recovery). It works.
It is worth it. Your animal friends are worth it. Do it.

Raleigh Raleigh was
lucky to have a great foster home for two months with Becky White and her
family.
Then, a great new family came into his
life. Tucker and his wife Julie work with Cocker Spaniel rescue, as a foster
home. They have their own sweet little blond Cocker named Padme'. They were
excited about having a Vizsla join their family, and had done the research.
Tucker grew up with Pointers, Brittany's
and GSP's, and Julie worked for
a vet during college. Their fosters have included many challenges, which
they were willing to take on, since they do not have children yet.
|
 |
|
An update from Tucker sounds like Raleigh is settling right in with his new
family!
"Padme' is totally
in love with him and tries to snuggle all the time but Raleigh just looks at
her as if to say, "What are you doing?" He has behaved so
well on leash that we gave him a trial off leash session yesterday to see how
he would behave. He started racing all over the back yard and responded very
well to our verbal commands. The last we spoke I mentioned he kept trying to
get in the bed in the middle of the night. We went to Sam's the next night
and bought a giant bed for him and the problem disappeared. We are starting
to learn his games and he
ours."
Tucker laughed as he told Buffy about a man flagging him down when they
walked Raleigh, right after they adopted him. He said the man was flapping
his arms, so excited that Tucker almost
couldn't understand him. He finally did understand the man to say he has TWO
Vizslas, both rescues, and he is a neighbor. The neighbor was very excited to
see another Vizsla in the neighborhood! Honestly now....how many of us
who have Vizslas have NOT chased someone down when we see they have a Vizsla
too?!
|
| |
|
Diesel Diesel has
found a home. He is now with Norman and Lisa Garcia, and their two
daughters. He has a lovely backyard with a pool, and a mom and dad who work
from home, so he has lots of love and attention from them just about all day
long!

| Juno |
This precious
fellow was on our Petfinder as Large, Baby, Male, Weimaraner mix......he was
5 months old and about to be put to sleep at a shelter. Our VCMA friend
Darcy Duval pulled him from the shelter, and fostered him until this happy
ending could be told.
"JUNO says, "I LOVE my new mom!" Juno is in a wonderful new
home. When the couple who came to meet him arrived, there were soon tears in
his new mom-to-be's eyes! Though they only came to meet him, she wanted to
take him home right then! Juno was delivered to his new home later that day,
and this is a very happy ending to this baby's story! "

DILLON
FOUND HIS "FOREVER" HOME
|
|
|
| Buffy,
Dylan and I have been very busy with obedience
training and trips to the dog park. He is adapting well to his new
home and loves all the “friends” he has made at the dog park, including
three or four other vizslas. At first his exuberance scared some of
the other dogs when he tried to play with them, but he is learning to play
more gently.
His favorite activities include chasing any birds that
might be flying overhead and car rides (he races to the door whenever he
thinks we are going somewhere). He also really loves sitting in
my (or anyone else's!) lap--he may seem to be too big to be a lap dog, but
he doesn't know that. He EXCELLS in his obedience class, and everyone
is continually impressed with how quickly he learns. He is especially
good at sit and stay and is content to stare for minutes at a time.
I have enclosed several pictures for you to post on
the website. If there is anything else I can do, please don't hesitate
to ask. Thank you again for everything!

Maya As mysterious as the Maya
civilization, Darcy DuVal is finding her Vizsla mix Maya to be.
She came to our attention
when we were asked to help rescue her from a rural shelter, where she faced
certain death. She was very pregnant, though at the time the shelter
said they weren’t certain if she was even expecting. No one knew her
origins, or any information about her.
After a few urgent calls,
one of our VCMA members offered to take her into foster care, and do the
same thing with her pups, until they could also be found appropriate homes.
The shelter was advised
that Vizsla rescue would take her, and there was already an adoptive home
waiting….Darcy!
|
 |
|
Imagine our shock, after
much coordination, to get a call when we were driving to the shelter, and
almost there, that another rescue person had been granted permission to
‘pull her’ from the shelter. That rescue person has always been
adamant about spaying, even if it means aborting a whole litter. As it
turned out, poor Maya was within a week of having her litter of puppies, but
they did the deed anyway. Another perfect example of how these tender
doggie souls are completely at the mercy of the whims of humans, however
misguided.
We thought that was the end
of the story. Then we got a call from the other rescue person, saying
we could have her. Apparently there was no plan for Maya, other than
to get rid of her puppies. It was truly a sad situation, not to
mention a potentially dangerous one for Maya, with her about to whelp a
litter.
Happy days are here for
Maya now. She has an adoring mom in Darcy, as well as an adoptive
Beagle brother named Romeo, and a kitty sister, Punkins. Maya is smart
as her namesake, and sweet as well. She is a lucky girl, and even if
the beginning of her story was sad, she has a wonderful life now. Darcy, who
started out wanting to adopt a purebred Vizsla, is convinced this was a
family meant to be, so great is her love for Maya.
Please remember three
important things:
Please
note on our adoption application there is a place at the end to indicate
your willingness to consider adopting a mix.

HARDY'S STORY
- by Buffy Scheaffer |
| I got a call, summer 2003,
about a male Vizsla that needed to be rehomed. I called the owner, and the lady
told me she had run an ad in the paper a few days before. I assured her she
didn't want him to go to just anyone that might answer a newspaper ad, and
explained who I was and what I do with Vizslas, my long history with the breed,
and several years with rescue. I told her how rescue works, and arranged to get
the dog the next day.
It was sooooo sad. She had all his worldly belongings gathered and sitting right at the front
door, and he looked confused, with big, scared eyes, and very vulnerable when I
walked in the door. He knew something was up, he just didn't know what.

The husband is on the road 5 days a week, the lady works 5
days a week, their 2 year old little girl is in day care 5 days a week, and the
dog was put in the basement to spend the day!!!!!!--5 days a week!! One weekend
each month the whole family goes away for the weekend for the husband to do his
reserve duty, so the dog was put in a boarding kennel one weekend each month,
and more if they took any trips.
So....the wife realized two things....she was the one who had
to care for the dog, and the dog had no life. She felt it wasn't fair to him,
and wanted him in a home where he would get some attention. Hardy was 7 years
old, and they had gotten him as a new baby!! I brought him home, we fell in love
with him and decided to keep him as a member of our family! We had just
lost our most precious (and first) Weim boy rescue, at about age 10-11, to TCC
(bladder cancer), about 6 weeks before this. My husband was still in mourning
big-time, and we were all still very raw emotionally from losing that dog. David
had been adamant about not taking in any others for a while, foster or
otherwise, but I know how things work around here.
It was one of those situations that didn't feel right when I
picked up Hardy. She couldn't seem to get him out of there fast enough, and
didn't seem at all upset about him going...and not one single tear. And I was
trying NOT to well up with tears, he was so vulnerable and wondering why he was
being taken from his family. I told Hardy all the way home that we didn't even
HAVE a basement! And we had other dogs for him to play with, and four humans
that were around most of the time. He just had to find out for himself.
Hardy is a precious fellow, well behaved,
obedience trained, and a real clown! We all adore
him! He has a goofy funny personality, and has big happy roo’s for us often. I
am so glad we could be a part of his HUGE happiness displayed every day! The
happiness we have in return is bountiful!
A note for potential adopters—Another
Vizsla member of our family, who came from the Cobb County shelter (another
story), was a white-faced 8 year old when we adopted her. She is
going on twelve now, and continues to be more feisty than most of the others!
She is also the “Little Princess” of this household. It’s hard to describe the
joy this little girl has brought to us, so please don’t be afraid to adopt an
older – “senior”—dog, Vizsla or otherwise!
